Chapter 6.5 Workstations and Linked Storages

Workstation Basics
Workstations are constructions that specific crafting takes place. There will be workstations designed for smithing, cooking, construction, and so forth. They are able to link to storages. By default, they will be able to access resource in storage automatically from their radius. In land claims and constructed controls, players can select at workstations or globally, to grab storage from everywhere in a room, within a radius of the storage, or specific linked storages.

  • Radius

    • Workstations create a radius that checks for storage inventory nearby to make crafting from various items quick and easy

  • Room

    • Access storage from anywhere in the room

  • Linked Storages

    • Use light sources to link storages, when interacting at the workstation, you can see runic lines linking to the storages you have access to

Each storage has options that helps allow and disallow certain resources based on the player's settings. These settings allow hired NPC to know what can and can't go in a location. Or leave it as is to allow all resource types. This shows up visually as a small posted ledger on the storage, whereas all resource types allowed is the regular shelf asset.

Crafting from Skills, References, or Teachers
When crafting from skills, references or teachers, select which crafting icon you want activated. Skill icons will fade if any skills lack the materials and/or tools. The skill will show a cross on it if you need a different workstation (it may be that you need to upgrade your workstation.) You can hover over the skill icon to see what you are missing. After selection, all the items needed will be pulled from any linked storage, and be immediately placed where the recipe dictates. Your hand and station will show a magic circle when you do this. If you are lacking anything, it won't apply what is missing.

Workstation Complexity
Based on what level of complexity your workstation has, it can limit what kind of recipes you can create. Even if you have the required skill or reference. You can usually less complex recipes with a station with higher complexity, as long as you have the right tools and resources.

Stationary and Mobile Workstations
Some workstations are designed to be placed in one place. Others are able to be carried on carts, placed on a wagon, or ship, others can be carried just on the player themselves.

Storage Buildings
When land, vehicle, and wildlife claim buildings can be designed as storages. This allows any linked building's workstations to pull resources from a storage building/construction. The link is created by using a firesource (torch, lantern, etc) at the building's entrance firesource, and bringing fire to or from the storage. Player and NPC owners of storages, can optionally charge players in tinder value to use the items. Assigned owners of the storage can limit player usage based on daily, weekly, or monthly based on spirit value or times used. Or set it as unlimited, and set different limits on specific settlement players, such as with licenses, with the ability to ban or limit visitor usage.

Link Visuals during Crafting
When a workstation is linked to a storage construction, or building, the workstation will glow with a magic circle. The workstation must have an active firesource to activate the link.

Public Drop Boxes
Sometimes stranger NPC and players want to give you items that are not part of a quest. For example, an NPC may like to gather in their free time. Creating a drop box is a good idea in these instances, since they won't have access to private storages. You can place these in public areas for their access.

Service Workstation - Service Counters
Service counters appear as weighing scales, with other themes based on purpose/usage. They allow payment for specific mechanics like stores, restaurants, inns, and service vehicles.
