Chapter 10.5 Starbound Trait

Retiring Characters and Starbound Trait
The longer a player is offline, the higher up their firefly goes into the sky. In these instances, players are put into an inactive state. In this state, characters are not dead. Unless the user decides to log back in, their character will never enter a death state, and therefore never be able to start their death legacy history, or drop their spirit relics as loot. Therefore, there will be some options on how to retire a character.

Retiring Inactive Characters
In these instances, players can retire inactive characters at their character selection screen. The game will ask multiple times if you are sure you want to retire a character, the result is the same as character death. In this instance, a player's firefly will rise up, if it hasn't yet, turn into a star, and their relics will be dropped in random areas of the world as shooting stars.

Retiring Active Characters
Players can also retire active characters. In these instances, the character's firefly will shoot up into the sky. Then their relics will also be dropped in random areas of the world as shooting stars.

Shooting Stars
Shooting stars will have small landing zone warnings, but will only cause minimal damage if it hits something.

Starbound Character Trait
Players can also can create an activity hardmode character. This trait is known as Starbound. In starbound mode, players will need to burn tinder to replenish their core tinder meter. Any amount will keep a player tethered to the world, but it will slowly deplete over time. This is similar to property ownership.

Reverting to Regular Mode
During gameplay in the player's core menu, or at their character selection screen, players can toggle out of starbound mode, but cannot re-enter it. While starbound mode is active, there will be a slight boost to all crafts made, as well as a small legacy bonus for each experience.

Depleted Core Tinder
Once you run out of core tinder, your character will start moving towards the sky. Logging back in before the character reaches full starbound state, will return you back to the world and reset the counter. Players can unlock crafts specifically tied to starbound mode, that allow players to stores items in core tinder capsules to accumulate condensed tinder, to stay tethered to the world, even after long states of inactivity.

Logging of at Active Log Off Zones
Logging off at crafted mantles, resurrection points, and light sources will slow down tinder usage. As long as the source is active. During times of those areas being destroyed, such as monster attacks, wars, or piracy, you will start depleting core tinder values as normal again. There are some outpost controllers, that will slow down tinder usage for starbound players.

World Mode
There will be some worlds that will have starbound mode activated. So all players are required to create a starbound character. This keeps the world a bit more active if players are looking for more dedicated worlds.
