Chapter 5.5 NPC Death and Looting
NPC Death and Resurrection
Players can resurrect NPC using items like charms, potions, and rituals, up until their corpse starts rotting. At that point, resurrection is no longer possible. Death is defined as when the NPC's corpse starts rotting.
NPC Inventory
Until they eat collected items in their pack, or exchange it at a store, it will remain on the NPC. If NPC die or are killed, they will have their bag inventory as loot, as well as items in their stomach inventory if they ate anything recently, if you decide to carve them up to see it.
NPC Buildings
If an NPC owns a building on a land claim, the wreath will fall off the door, as a visual of their death. The firesource turned off. If the NPC had a public building in unclaimed land (the wild,) the building will just stop being tended to. It will eventually decay, or be claimed by a player, or be destroyed by a monster.
NPC Death with Active Quests
NPC death will remove the quest, and if the poster in a player’s inventory it will indicate "unable to complete: NPC dead" and appearing faded.
Locality of Fame, Infamy, Favor and Disfavor
Fame and infamy values are stored with the specific NPC/NPC group it occurred with. If a claim is involved, the fame and infamy will affect the overall favor or disfavor of a claim. Quests increase favor publically. NPC death by monsters increases disfavor publically. NPC involved crimes will add disfavor if there are NPC witnesses. In later chapters, we will discuss how crimes can be set, and how NPC protections can be toggled on or off in a claim.
NPC Death Notifications
NPC by default will not notify a player if they died. But they will be crossed off with a red X, if a player tries to locate them (mark them on their map/activate beacon) in their core menu, but have since died. However, players can toggle this on, or change defaults in their core menu. By default, NPC that reached a loyal status, will notify players upon death, except after 3 have died, a cooldown will apply. This is useful when a player has created a large claim and their NPC are falling in battle.
