Chapter 1.2 Character Creation and World Start
Creating a Character
Players can choose from premade character templates to get started quickly, or create their own. There are no classes and players can mix and match any traits, and can edit after starting from a template. Players can filter classic categories by using the search filter. (Examples: Combat Skills, Crafting skills, Healing Skills, etc.) Players will see all starting skills, and can see all starter breakdown skills from there. (Examples: Crafting -> Smithing/Carpentry/Masonry/etc.) Players can also save their own templates to reuse in the future, or share with other players.
These are some premade template examples, and some ideas for character creation. Actual character trait options will be uploaded in the future, and the following is a general reference. [Images coming soon.]

Character Traits vs Skill Slots and Skills
Character traits are permanent character buffs, (or challenges) that cannot be altered. In-game, players gain empty skill slots over time. You will unlock skills that fill the slots. These can be flexibly learned, forgotten, or archived for later use if done strategically. In-game, strategically stack buffs with traits for maximum effects, or balance different traits with unrelated skills to maximize flexibility. You can modify skills outside of combat, but traits are unchanging.
Leftover Character Traits
Leftover character trait points can be used to either spend on starter items, equipments, pets, or livestock, or if enough is saved up, use to spend on more max skill slots. If a player doesn't want to spend any points on permanent character traits, they can spend all of the points on more max skill slots.
Challenging Characters - Increase Skill Slots
Every player has the same amount of points to select character traits. However, players can select trait challenges to either unlock more character traits, or increase their max skill slots in game.
Examples of Trait Challenges:
Permanent Alcoholic
Character needs ale or other brewery every so often, failing to do so results in a debuff
The debuff increases the longer the character goes without it, and cannot recover
Never Log Off
Doesn't turn into a firefly when logged off, character will pass out upon disconnecting and fall asleep when logged off
Will gain a debuff upon return if not logged off at a bed
Player can be moved by other players when logged off if the area/context allows it
Survival
Needs to eat and drink periodically to stay alive
Failing to do so will result in slow HP drain (pauses when logged off, unless has "Never Log Off" trait)
Survival Hard Core
Needs to eat and drink periodically to stay alive
Failing to do so will result in slow HP drain (pauses when logged off, unless has "Never Log Off" trait)
Player's core and consumable buffs are not enough to warm the player, player needs to wear warm or light gear in cold and hot areas
Geographically Challenged
Minimap is permanently disabled
Cosmically Damaged
This character always speaks in a garbled filter and their written texts comes out as scribbles
Trained scholars can decipher written texts and translate
Cannot also take on cosmic translation traits or skills
Cannot take on any skills or traits that negate or aid cosmic horror and cosmic bliss damage
Cosmic horror and cosmic bliss damage in increased
Attracts cosmic entities when entering their reactivity radius
PVP Always
Can attack and be attacked by another PVP always trait character
Normal PVP rules still apply (covered in a future chapter)
Loadouts - Options
Loadouts are full or partial gear changes that have cooldown timers. This gives players the option to focus on a single equipment loadout, or quick changes between equipment sets.
Loadout Examples - Switch Between...
Swordsman themed loadout and an archer loadout for combat
A combat loadout and crafting loadout
Multiple crafting loadout sets
Or more...
At character creation you can toggle to start with an extra loadout. Loadouts cost 3 skill slots, but players can convert them back and forth any time in game, when outside of combat. You will need to have room in your inventory to unequip a loadout, or be near an accessible loadout storage that has enough space.
Character's True Name
By inputting a character's true name, players can make up identities as aliases in various parts of the game, but deities (and GMs) will know your true name.
Game Start
Players can start a game by selecting where in the world they want to start. Each grid space selected will show if there are any land claims and their player count. It will also show the dominating ecology/biome and what types of resources are typically available in the area, and a general indicator of how much.
Starter Items Based on Location
Players can select starter items after choosing an area to spawn. The area's ecosystem grid type will determine the theme of items that can be chosen. Players can choose to start at a friend's land claim, or an allowed settlement (password protected, or public). Land claims can attach storages to player spawn points, which become a library of starter items players can select. These will need to be replenished as players claim them.
Change Mind on Starter Items
If you decide you don't want to spend remaining character points on starter items, you can convert your remaining points towards a skill slot (any remainder less than 1, will always give at least one skill slot), or return to reselect character traits.
Game Start with Meteors
Depending on the context of the location, players might be asked which meteor to start with. Meteors are resource based landings that add more material to the terrain. These are often limited to the dominant ecology in the selected grid. Wildlife based constructions, and world events can affect meteor selection. Land claims may also create constructions that don't allow meteors in their area.
Different Types of Templates
There are 3 different types of character templates a player can save and share.
Character Design Template
Contains character's visual features like hair, eyes, starting clothes and so forth
Character Traits Template
Contains just the traits to apply to a character
Can be uploaded after creating the character's visual features
Full Character Template
Combination of above
Players can still edit after uploading
(There are no templates that include items, livestock, pets, or meteors since this depends on the ecology and player activity of a selected grid.)
